LOCH STYLE FLIES

DEVIATE

(WET FLY OR LOCH STYLE FLY)

This fly is based on a fly that I found on the floor of a boat at the 2003 Fly Fish Australia national championships held at Mt. Beauty Victoria. I didn't think much about it at the time but after the competition when conducting my own mental post mortem I wondered if that fly would have made a difference to my result had I used it. Anyway it was too late by that time so I just secreted it away in the corner of one of my fly boxes. About six months later I was preparing for another competition on my home water of Lake Jindabyne. The water had just cooled down after a long hot summer and there were rainbow trout about but during competition times I knew it would be hard to get their interest. I resolved I needed something flashy to uses as an attractor on a dropper and decided this "deviate " looking little fly might just do the job and set about to tie a few up from materials I had available.
